The converter replaces the factory exhaust manifold unit as a single assembly — the same design Subaru uses from the factory. Stainless steel construction and a honeycomb catalytic substrate with precious metal coating ensure your Subaru's emissions stay clean for years to come. The kit ships with gaskets and mounting hardware for a complete install.

One important note: the factory heat shield is not included with this kit. If your original heat shield is damaged or rusted, you'll need to source a replacement separately or reuse your existing one if it's still in good condition.

Engine: Fits 2.5L H4 (EJ25 series) naturally aspirated engines only. Does NOT fit 2.5L turbocharged models (WRX, STI, Forester XT, Legacy GT). Turbo models use a different exhaust manifold and converter configuration.

Heat Shield: Factory heat shield is NOT included. Reuse your existing heat shield if in good condition, or source separately.

Installation Notes

Professional installation is recommended. The Subaru flat-four engine has tight exhaust access that makes this job more involved than it appears:

• Pre-Installation Inspection: Check your upstream and downstream O2 sensors before replacing the converter. A faulty O2 sensor can also trigger a P0420 code. Also inspect for exhaust leaks upstream of the converter — unburnt fuel from a leak can damage a new converter.
• Header Bolt Access: The upper exhaust manifold bolts on Subaru EJ25 engines can be difficult to reach. A swivel socket extension and u-joint make the job much easier.
• Donut Gasket: Pay attention to the donut gasket at the converter-to-pipe connection. It must seat properly to avoid exhaust leaks at the flex pipe joint.
• Heat Shield: Reinstall your factory heat shield after the new converter is in place. The shield prevents under-hood heat from radiating into the cabin and protects nearby components.
• Code Clearing: Clear the P0420 code with an OBD-II scanner. The catalyst readiness monitor requires several drive cycles to complete — drive the car normally for 50-100 miles before re-inspecting.

Pro Tip: Subaru exhaust manifold bolts are notorious for breaking off in the cylinder head. Apply penetrating oil liberally the night before you plan to work on it, and never use excessive force. If a bolt snaps, a professional extractor service is far cheaper than a ruined cylinder head.
