Key Features

Designed as a vehicle-specific replacement

This vehicle-specific catalytic converter is engineered to replace the original unit on 1999-2006 Chevy and GMC full-size trucks and SUVs. Every flange aligns with the factory exhaust system — no cutting, bending, or welding required. Drop it in, bolt it up, and you're back on the road.

Resolves P0420 Trouble Codes

A failing catalytic converter is the most common trigger for the P0420 "Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold" code on these GM trucks. This replacement unit is designed to support proper catalyst function when installed on a compatible vehicle, may help address catalyst-efficiency codes when the catalytic converter is the confirmed failed component.

TIG-Welded Stainless Steel Construction

Built from high-quality stainless steel using TIG welding throughout. The TIG-welded seams deliver superior durability compared to cheaper MIG-welded alternatives, withstanding thermal cycling and road vibration without cracking. Each flange mates precisely with your stock exhaust pipes.

Double-Layer High-Temperature Ceramic Substrate

The internal substrate uses a double-layer high-temperature ceramic design loaded with precious metal washcoat for efficient catalytic conversion. This ensures consistent exhaust purification performance over a long service life, even under heavy towing loads.

Emissions Notice

This catalytic converter is intended for federal-use applications where permitted. It cannot be sold or shipped for use on vehicles registered in California, Maine, Colorado, or New York. Verify local emissions and inspection requirements before purchase.

Description

If your 1999-2006 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, or Cadillac Escalade is throwing a P0420 code or you've noticed a drop in fuel economy and sluggish throttle response, a proper diagnosis is required before replacing parts. This AMVirtuo Vehicle-specific design catalytic converter replaces the failed unit without any modifications to your exhaust system.

Unlike universal converters that require cutting and welding, this unit bolts directly to the factory flanges. The TIG-welded stainless steel body resists corrosion and thermal fatigue, while the double-layer ceramic substrate restores proper three-way catalytic conversion for your 4.3L V6, 4.8L V8, or 5.3L V8 engine.

Installation includes quality gaskets and hardware. The crossover tube section matches the stock routing, so you won't need to reroute or extend any exhaust piping.

Installation Notes

Professional installation is recommended, but experienced DIYers can handle this job with basic mechanical tools:

  • Safety First: Let the exhaust system cool completely before starting. Use jack stands rated for your truck's weight if working without a lift.
  • Oxygen Sensor: Before replacing the converter, inspect your upstream and downstream O2 sensors. A faulty O2 sensor can also trigger a P0420 code.
  • Torque Flange Bolts: Tighten evenly in a crisscross pattern to the manufacturer's recommended spec. Over-tightening can distort the flange and cause leaks.
  • Leak Test: After installation, start the engine and inspect all flange connections for exhaust leaks. Listen for a ticking sound and feel around the joints.
  • Clear Codes: Use an OBD-II scanner to clear the P0420 code after installation. The catalyst monitor needs several drive cycles to complete before it will pass readiness.

Pro Tip: Spray penetrating oil on the flange bolts the night before you plan to work on the truck. Original exhaust bolts that have been on for 15+ years can be stubborn — a little patience and PB Blaster goes a long way.
